Guido Nijs
Guido Nijs (saxophones), started playing the recorder at the age of seven and switched to saxophone at the age of twelve. He studied at the conservatory in Tilburg and the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with teachers Jan Menu and John Ruocco. Besides tenor, Guido plays soprano-, alto- and baritone saxophone as well.
In 2001 he formed the Special Request Horns (with Jan van Duikeren and Louk Boudesteijn) after being approached by BEEF!, a Dutch pop/reggae band.
Currently, he is playing with Caro Emerald, Marco Borsato, Gare du Nord, BEEF!, the Kessels Saxophone Quartet and the JazzInvaders. In the past Guido has been a member of Raise the Roof and Martin Fondse’s Groovetroopers (amongst others) and performed/recorded with Candy Dulfer, Ben Saunders, Trijntje Oosterhuis, Lionel Richie, Diana Ross, Leon Ware, Daniel Johnston and many others.
